Integrated Approach

TRW’s philosophy is to integrate its HS&E efforts into every aspect of the business.

Management System

TRW Automotive takes a proactive approach to managing its HS&E efforts. To implement the company's HS&E vision and goals, ensure the sustainability of its initiatives, and improve the company's performance, TRW relies on a comprehensive HS&E management system that covers:

  • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System)
  • OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health Safety Assessment System)
  • Components of the United States Voluntary Protection Program (VPP)
  • Internal management practices that drive integration of HS&E into the business

While TRW’s Management System does have specific requirements, guidelines, and forms, it is flexible enough to handle emerging issues. These issues might include corrective actions identified in incident and injury analysis, regulatory and customer requirements, or the results of continuous improvement processes and audits. Flexible systems are one way TRW is creating a sustainable approach to HS&E management.

Audit Program

A key component of TRW’s overall strategy is its HS&E Compliance and Management Systems Audit Program. This program focuses on:

  • reducing risk and liability associated with onsite activities at operating facilities
  • achieving and then maintaining compliance with all applicable HS&E laws and TRW Automotive corporate standards
  • developing and implementing management systems that support compliance and help achieve world-class HS&E performance.

Risk reduction and cost avoidance are sound practices that help sustain the business.  TRW audits all manufacturing facilities at least once every 3 years, and audits its management systems at least once each year.
