Continuous Improvement / Risk Reduction

Cost Determination and Reduction (CDR)

One effective way to sustain a business is to continually improve it and reduce risk. TRW pursues continuous improvement and risk reduction through a program called Cost Determination and Reduction or CDR.   CDR activities are designed to improve life for TRW, its employees, customers, and the communities where TRW operates by minimizing waste, eliminating hazards, and reducing energy consumption.

The CDR program focuses on 13 key areas:

Overall HS&E Management

The HS&E Management process coordinates all CDR efforts and shares best practices throughout the company.

Training

Training includes identifying areas where knowledge is needed and then developing programs and supporting documents for TRW employees.

Hazards Management

The Hazards Management process coordinates efforts aimed at accident avoidance including near misses.

Incident Management

When the Hazards Management process cannot achieve the “zero incidents” level, the Incident Management Process activates to manage TRW activities around accidents, near misses at work, and travel accidents.

Absence Management

The Absence Management Process explores all issues around HS&E-related absences.

Water Management

The Water Management process oversees each site’s water supply, including drinking water and water used in manufacturing processes.

Non-Hazardous Material Management

The Non-Hazardous Material Management process covers all non-hazardous materials with significant relevance to HS&E activities.

Hazardous Materials Management

The Hazardous Material Management process oversees management of hazardous materials.

Energy Management

The Energy Management process coordinates the supply of primary and converted energy to sites and production processes.

Wastewater Management

The Wastewater Management process ensures appropriate treatment and final discharge of wastewater generated at facilities.

Waste Management

The Waste Management process controls the appropriate handling and disposal of waste generated on sites.

Air Emission Management

The Air Emission Management process ensures the appropriate treatment and release of emissions from sites to the atmosphere.

Noise Management

The Noise Emission Management process manages noise emissions generated at sites, including both including internal and external sources.
