Pre-Crash
In addition to active safety systems for collision avoidance/collision mitigation, TRW is working on passive safety pre-crash systems to increase occupant safety. To ensure utmost safety benefit on the one hand and to allow an early introduction in series production on the other, the project is divided in two basic methods:
Based on a top-down oriented approach, the most promising safety measures and corresponding system requirements (e.g. sensor specifications) are being identified. Starting from accident data analysis and accident reconstruction, the effect of different passive safety measures is rated and the necessary system components are identified, including sensor field of vision and update rate. The comparison of accident type frequency and severity ensure the relevance of the addressed accident scenarios in the field.
Using a classic bottom-up approach, the potential benefit of pre-crash activation of the Active Control Retractor is analyzed.
