Occupant Sensors

TRW offers a range of Occupant Sensing Systems designed to provide an extra level of safety to passengers.

Occupant Classification Module

The Occupant Classification Module is an FMVSS 208-compliant algorithm that provides an efficient way to check if a seat is occupied within the vehicle. The OCM features an auto zero-offset and a hermetically sealed housing, and is powered by a flash microprocessor.

Weight Transducers

Weight Transducers feature a thick film strain gage and are fixed via a three-point mounting. Two configurations of the weight transducers are possible - horizontal and vertical mounted - and communication is achieved via a 5V analog signal.  An added advantage of the TRW transducers is that no calibration is needed in service.

Low Risk Deployment Sensor

TRW's Low Risk Deployment sensor works in conjunction with the LRD airbag system.  The system disables the airbag for infants.  The LRD airbag is safe for other small occupants.  The single sensor solution reduces costs over comparable systems that feature four sensors.

Seat Belt Reminder

This sensor detects occupants in the passenger and/or rear seats using a proven reed switch embedded in a seat cushion. Occupants are reminded to fasten belts based on the seat buckle status. Robust and inexpensive, the belt reminder provides a simple way of improving a vehicle’s Euro NCAP rating.
