Lane Departure Warning/Guidance
TRW's Lane Departure Warning and Lane Guidance systems use a forward-facing video camera mounted behind the rearview mirror to detect the lane markings on a highway and alongside many types of roadways.
Lane Departure Warning
This system is designed to help mitigate two types of situations: single vehicle road departures when a vehicle collides with an oncoming vehicle or one in an adjacent lane.
The system detects lane markings and the edges of rural roadways (in the absence of markings). When a driver has crossed a lane or the edge of the road, they receive a visual, audible or haptic warning to allow them to correct the situation.
Haptic feedback options include a vibrating steering wheel that is activated when crossing lane markings to give the driver a discreet signal.
Lane Guidance/Lane Keeping
These systems take the information from the video sensor and integrate with TRW's Electric Steering system. As with Lane Departure Warning, the video system detects if the vehicle is drifting from the center of its lane, and the electric steering provides active driver assistance via a counter-steering torque to help guide the driver back to the center of the lane.

TRW's Lane Departure Warning uses a camera to monitor the road ahead.
These systems are also featured within the Electronic Systems section.
