Hybrid Enabling Brake Control

ESC-R

TRW has developed the modular ESC-R (regenerative-capable Electronic Stability Control) system primarily for hybrid electric vehicles. The modular, hydraulically closed-loop system is based on standard ESC, but features a brake pedal simulator.

ESC-R operates in all FWD, RWD and 4WD configurations. It offers full compatibility for regenerative braking in HEV vehicles, without change in pedal feel compared with a conventional brake system, allowing for a maximum of energy recovery during braking.

TRW's Slip Control Boost (SCB) system seamlessly integrates electronic stability functionality with regenerative braking capabilities that is ideal for hybrid and alternative powertrain solutions or any configuration requiring high pressure brake applications in the absence of vacuum boost.

The SCB system replaces the traditional brake actuation system, including boosters, master cylinders and vacuum pumps with an electro-hydraulic control unit (EHCU), and a brake pedal simulator with a twin master cylinder to supply brake pressure. This offers several advantages, including ease of installation with fewer components, improved packaging in the front dash area versus under hood applications, a decoupled brake pedal that is ideal for integration into autonomous or emergency braking systems, and enhanced Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH) characteristics for smooth and quiet brake application.
