Adaptive Cruise Control
The ACC functionality is enabled by radar technology, featuring a forward-looking sensor with high performance antenna, digial electronics and longitudinal control software.
TRW’s production system uses a 77 GHz long-range radar which operates at distances between 1,5 m and 200 m, and at speeds up to 220 km/h.
Driver support includes:
- Assist with driver overload and stress in congested highway situations.
- Assist with key driver functions (accelerating and braking) while cruising.
The additional function of Follow to Stop is a standard functionality on all current TRW radars. It uses a single sensor source enabling the vehicle to follow at a safe distance, especially in traffic jam situations, to a full stop.
TRW is introducing low-cost ACC using 24 GHz technology. This system provides the full ACC functions and is suitable for common driving conditions. The affordable cost enables mass-market adaptation of this feature that was once considered a luxury.
