Active/Passive Safety System Integration
Steering Torque Control with ESC and ACR

TRW's integrated safety portfolio combines the Active Control Retractor (ACR), Steering Torque Control (STC) and TRW's Electronic Stability Control (ESC) to provide superior protection and handling. These three systems work together to help protect drivers from potential accidents. TRW's ESC system continuously monitors the yaw velocity and the lateral acceleration of the vehicle in relation to the vehicle speed and the drivers steering input. In the event that the vehicle starts skidding due to difficult road conditions, the ACR and STC are activated. The ACR pretensions the occupant's seatbelt, keeping them in a safe seated position, while the STC helps the driver to set the right steering angle for getting the vehicle under control again. At the same time ESC automatically adjusts brake pressure on the vehicle's individual wheels and reduces the engine throttle to help bring the vehicle back in line with the driver's intended path.
