TRW Automotive is at the forefront of high tech electronic actuation technologies that enhance performance and offer added safety features such as Brake Assist (BA). Brake assist senses when a driver applies the brakes in an emergency situation and activates an electronic booster that employs the ABS. This can lead to enhanced reductions in stopping distance. Additionally electronic apply capability enables advanced technologies such as TRW's Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and helps lead to improved performance characteristics for ACC.

Electronically controlled actuation systems offer the following features:
-
•Provides electronic brake apply capability
-
•ECA function ensures maximum brake force and ABS application in a panic brake situation
-
•Brake assist “switch on” only in emergency situation
-
•Maintain all features of standard vacuum booster, e.g., ratio, jump-in, threshold
-
•Can be used to pre-charge hydraulic modulator in a ESC event/situation
-
•Integration of all ECA components within the same packaging space taken by a
standard booster (solenoid, travel sensor, ECU, release switch, cable sleeve,
plug connector)
