TRW's electrically powered hydraulic steering system incorporates smaller packaging and increased power with decreased fuel consumption and CO² emissions to provide superior performance through advanced technology. EPHS is an ideal solution across conventional or Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) platforms.

Benefits of TRW's EPHS System

  • Driving safety - TRW's inner rotor concept combined with an enhanced motor control offers reduced motor pump unit reaction time, providing less steering effort in the event of an avoidance maneuver
  • Reduced energy consumption and CO² emissions - TRW's EPHS system allows the motor pump unit to run the steering wheel system at lower speeds, this reduces pressure loss and lowers the amount of CO² released.

TRW Automotive offers a range of Electrically Assisted Steering (EAS) systems which can be tailored for use with hybrid electric vehicles (HEV's):

  • Electrically Powered Hydraulic Steering (EPHS) systems offer an off-the-shelf solution for HEV's
  • For most HEV load requirements, TRW's EPHS motor pump unit can be used in conjunction with conventional hydraulic steering systems
  • TRW also offers a range of pure Electrically Powered Steering (EPS) systems - column drive for smaller and belt drive for larger vehicle segments
  • EPS solutions are cost effective when applied across a conventional and HEV platform
