TRW’s full range of load limiting seatbelt technologies are designed to help manage and balance the energy of an occupant’s motion during a crash. The load limiter works in tandem with complementary occupant safety technologies such as pre-tensioners that fire at the outset of a crash to tighten the belt and airbags that help to absorb the occupant energy in a high speed crash. Load limiters are integrated into the seat belt retractor system and will allow seat belt webbing to release in a controlled manner. This allows the body to move forward into the airbag and balance the absorption of the energy of the crash.
