TRW’s adaptive restraint system allows the customization of airbag deployment for varying passenger sizes. Through various combinations of adaptive sensors located within the steering wheel and at the seatbelt, the airbag can potentially sense varying passenger sizes, the severity of the crash and whether the driver or passenger is belted or unbelted. The airbag then adjusts the pressure accordingly. This advanced system offers potentially improved protection for all passengers.
