TRW Focuses on Pedestrian Safety Technology

One recent focus of TRW's Research and Development activities include advanced pedestrian detection and accident mitigation technologies. The forward-looking system uses sophisticated signal processing algorithms to fuse data from video camera and 24 GHz radar sensors, in combination with electronic stability control (ESC), to automatically brake a vehicle and help reduce the severity of a potential pedestrian impact.  It can also work with other sensors that deploy active safety devices, including pyrotechnic hood lifters and bumper airbags.

2011 TRW Report for Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability

The 2011 Report for Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability is now available.

This sustainability report not only highlights the Safety Excellence (SE) and Environmental Excellence (EE) programs, but also how TRW integrates sustainability into its products and operations.

TRW Steering Plant Reaches One Million Milestone Gear Production

This week the North America Steering facility in Queretaro, Mexico, reached an important milestone - producing the 1 millionth belt drive electric power steering (EPS) gear.  TRW Automotive began manufacturing this first-ever type of steering gear in July 2008.

Nine TRW facilities recognized for health, safety & environment excellence

TRW's overall safety performance in 2011 was the best in the history of the Company.  TRW Automotive has recognized nine facilities for excellence in Health, Safety and Environment performance, specifically:

Parts & Service facility earns Honda award

TRW's North America Parts & Service facility in Garrett, Indiana, has earned an award from American Honda for outstanding performance in 2011 by providing customers with top-quality service parts in a timely manner and at competitive prices for the maintenance and repair of Honda and Acura customers' vehicles.  This is the second consecutive year that Garrett has earned the award.

Cognitive Safety Taken to New Levels

Cognitive safety integration is the result of TRW's many years of experience across a multitude of safety technologies.  A building block approach - including advanced chassis control, radar and camera-enabled driver assist, through to environmental sensing and adaptive occupant safety systems, has uniquely positioned TRW to deliver integrated safety.  The integration roadmap continues to unfold as TRW researchers and engineers push the boundaries of advanced safety.

Here are some glimpses into the future of cognitive safety:

Occupant Safety Integration Tested in Virtual World

Computer aided engineering (CAE) has had a dramatic influence on product design and development during the last 25 years.  Techniques and software are so powerful today that they can replicate the physical world with impressive accuracy.  Nowhere is this more true than in TRW’s Occupant Safety Systems (OSS) engineering.

TRW Opens New Facility in China

TRW Chassis Systems Co. Ltd. (CTCS) celebrated the opening of a new braking plant in NanJing, China.  The facility is in close proximity to several of TRW's Chinese OEM customers in the southern region of China.

As TRW further develops its geographic and customer diversification, NanJing will be one of nine facilities in China the Company plans to open or expand in 2012.  The NanJing facility, which is considered a "satellite" branch of the main plant in ChongQing, operates a total of four production and four assembly lines and has an annual output of 150,000 pieces.
